CRFD gives fireplace safety tips
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As the nights get colder and the warm weather is lacking Columbia-Richland Fire Department is giving fireplace safety tips.
- Make sure the chimney is cleaned annually. Have it inspected by a professional.
- Make sure the area around the fireplace is clear of any potentially flammable items.
- Use a metal or heat-tempered glass screen.
- Only burn dry and well-aged wood. Do not burn gift wrap, cardboard, or plastic.
- Never leave a fire unattended. Extinguish it before going to bed or leaving the house.
- Keep children and pets away from the fireplace when in use or still warm.
