OCSD merges district’s middle schools while adding additional space

ORANGEBURG, SC (WOLO) — Orangeburg, South Carolina is home to two middle schools.

Soon, that will be down to just one.

Next year, William J. Clark and Robert E. Howard Middle School students will be in the same building after the Orangeburg County School district decided to merge the two schools.

Tuesday, school officials celebrated the new addition to William J. Clark Middle School, a 28,000 square foot classroom space which will accommodate the arrival of more students from Howard Middle.

Orangeburg County Superintendent Dr. Shawn Foster says the new addition to Clark Middle School will improve educational opportunities for the students.

In addition to combining middle schools, the district is also replacing several of its schools’ football fields with astroturf and building a new Orangeburg Wilkinson High.

The future Howard Elementary School will combine three of the district’s elementary schools to further maximize resources in a county that has seen a slight population decline over the past few years.
