ONE-ON-ONE: Former SC senator explains decision to withdraw election protest

HARTSVILLE, SC (WOLO) — This week, longtime Democrat senator Gerald Malloy withdrew a protest over the election results in South Carolina District 29.

Since 2003, Malloy has represented the district which includes five counties, two of those being Lee and Sumter Counties.

Votes in Lee County are what Malloy wanted clarification on. After trailing 287 votes after Election Night, Malloy only lost by 87 votes according to a recount conducted by the state election commission.

With more questions than answers, Malloy filed a protest which was set to be heard this week.

Malloy ultimately decided to withdraw his protest due to a lack of data being made available to him or a third party analyst.

SC GOP chair Drew McKissic also addressed the issue in a statement saying: “I’m glad to see former Senator Malloy agrees that it was finally time to listen to the will of the voters and concede the election.”
