COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will have temporary overnight closures of I-20 at Broad River Road (US-176) due to road work, said SCDOT.

The Department of Transportation said traffic will be detoured using the Broad River Road intersection at Exit 65.

And motorists will be directed to exit I-20 using the off-ramp to Broad River Road and continue through the intersection to enter the on-ramp back onto I-20.

The detour schedule for the I-20 westbound overnight closures is as follows:

  • Monday, December 9 to Tuesday, December 10 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, December 10 to Wednesday, December 11 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The detour schedule for the I-20 eastbound overnight closures is as follows:

  • Wednesday, December 18 to Thursday, December 19 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 19 to Friday, December 20 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The temporary overnight closures of I-20 are necessary for the contractor to set the concrete beams for the new bridge that will carry Broad River Road traffic over I-20 as part of Phase 2 of the Carolina Crossroads Project, according to SCDOT.

There will be message boards and construction signs placed along I-20 to inform motorists of the detour and temporary traffic pattern.

Also, law enforcement will be present at the intersection of Broad River Road and the I-20 on-and-off-ramps to direct traffic.
