SLED, Newberry Co. deputies investigating early morning homicide
NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Newberry County Coroner’s Office are investigating an early morning homicide and attempted murder incident.
Officials say around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, Newberry County 911 received a call from an individual claiming to have been shot during an attempted robbery on Green Meadows Drive which is just outside the City of Newberry.
When deputies arrived to the scene, a man was found with a gunshot wound in the lower torso area, lying outside a home.
The victim told investigators that another person inside the house may have been shot.
Another victim was found in the backyard dead, say deputies.
The surviving victim told law enforcement that several black males entered the home and began firing shots before leaving in a dark-colored sedan.
Newberry County EMS treated the victim at the scene before taking them to a nearby trauma center.
Authorities say the victim’s current condition remains unknown.
Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece identified the deceased victim as Kier Leon Marsh, 31, of Broadway, North Carolina.
Marsh lived at the Green Meadows Drive address at the time of the incident, according to investigators.
An autopsy has been requested and will be performed. Sheriff Lee Foster stated that the incident appears to be isolated.
