(WCIV) — MUSC is taking a step toward advancement with the installation of an upright MRI machine as a part of their Operation Upright campaign.
The new machine was unveiled Monday morning with guest speakers including Sydney Severance, the patient who inspired the fundraising campaign to buy the machine.
Severance was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a disorder that affects the connective tissue in the joints. An upright MRI scan is needed to diagnose and investigate cases of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and with the instillation of a new machine in MUSC, patients like Severance can be treated easier.
The fundraising effort began in 2021 with the goal of raising $1.2 million and now that the amount has been reached a celebration is in order.
An unveiling ceremony was held Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.
