SLED charges man in connection with fatal shooting of 35-year-old man

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– SLED has charged a man for a fatal shooting that happened last month in Sumter, said officials.

Xavier Bennett, 23, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of a 35-year-old man.

According to investigators, on November 23, Bennett and 35-year-old Travis Rouse pointed handguns at each other when Bennett unintentionally shot him.

Rouse later died at the hospital.

Bennett is being held at the Sumter County Detention Center.
