Columbia-Richland firefighters control Midlands apartment complex blaze, nearly 50 people displaced

 

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia-Richland firefighters believe fireworks sparked a blaze last night at a Midlands apartment complex that displaced nearly 50 people.

Chief Aubrey Jenkins says around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, firefighters responded to Spring Lake Apartments on Garners Ferry Road.

He says the fire damaged 11 apartment units displacing 49 people.

A firefighter did receive a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Jenkins says the fire caused an estimated $500 thousand in damage.
