State releases names of 104 victims killed by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina: NCDHHS

WLOS) —  State officials have released an updated list of the 104 people in North Carolina killed by Hurricane Helene that also includes county of death and date of death.

Following a records request, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) provided News 13 with the identifies of these North Carolinians who lost their lives.

This comes over three months after Helene – one of the country’s deadliest hurricanes in the 21st century – struck Western North Carolina.

The names are as follows:

News 13 notes that North Carolina residents whose bodies were recovered in another state are not included in this list.

NCDHHS released the following statement after providing this information:

“The response to the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene was monumental and required quick work with our state, federal and local partners to ensure that everyone who died as a result of the storm was properly identified and released to their families with the best care and as efficiently as possible.

We understand how important it is to families and communities left behind to have accurate and timely information of disaster related deaths. Every decedent was handled with care during the response.

Regarding claims that the number of people who died during Hurricane Helene is much higher, we have no information to prove that to be true. All examinations are complete.”
