Man arrested in connection with South Winnsboro community shooting incident

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Fairfield County Sheriff Montgomery has announced the arrest of a man in connection with a South Winnsboro community shooting incident.

Deputies say 48-year-old Eddie Lamont Smalls was charged after an argument led to a shooting on Monday, Jan. 6.

According to investigators Smalls was arguing with the victim when the victim turned their back and smalls shot them three times on Fagan Road near the intersection of Doty Road around 2:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived to the scene they rendered aid to the victim until EMS arrived on scene and took the victim to Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Smalls was taken in to custody at the scene and later booked at the Fairfield County Detention Center.

Investigators say they were able to locate and take into evidence the firearm that was used in the incident.

He has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
