Spirit Airlines cuts 200 jobs

(CNN)– Spirit Airlines says it will cut 200 non-union jobs in an attempt to cut costs.

This comes after the carrier filed for bankruptcy in November.

Spirit has struggled with debt, competition from other low-cost carriers, and failed attempted to merge with other airlines.

A spokesperson said the job cuts are separate from the bankruptcy filing.

The carrier expects to emerge from bankruptcy in the first quarter of this year.
