Districts announce school schedules after snow day impacts counties

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Districts in the Midlands are resuming classes after a snow day hit the area on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Calhoun County Schools:

Calhoun County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, January 24, to avoid students waiting for buses in the dark and freezing temperatures, said officials.

Clarendon County Schools:

To ensure the safety of students and staff, all schools in Clarendon County School District will continue to do e-learning on Friday, January 24.

All school activities have been canceled.

District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties:

School District Five officials said out of an abundance of caution all School District Five schools and offices, including the virtual FIVE program, will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24.

Students and staff should report to their schools or offices two hours after their normal start time, and the rest of the day will proceed as normal.

Students in 3K preschool programs will not meet due to the two-hour delay, according to officials.

Students with morning classes at the Center for Advanced Technical Students should report to the Center in accordance with the delay.

Fairfield County Schools:

All Fairfield County School District schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24, due to below-freezing temperatures expected in the early morning hours, said the district.

Lee County Schools:

Lee County School District will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24, due to the expected road conditions and temperature, said district officials.

Additionally, all after school programs, athletic events, field trips and extracurricular activities for Friday afternoon have been cancelled.

Lexington One:

Lexington One will operate schools on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24, and schools will dismiss at their normal times, according to officials.

Bus riders are asked to report to their bus stops two hours later than usual, and car riders should be dropped off two hours later as well.

District officials said pre-school half-day classes, both morning and afternoon sessions, are canceled.

After-school activities will resume their regular schedules.

Lexington Two:

Lexington School District Two schools and offices will be open on Friday, January 24, on a two-hour delayed start. 

The delayed start will offer slightly warmer temperatures for safer road travel, according to the district.

While classes will start two hours later than the normal schedule, afternoon dismissal will be at the normal time.

Students in 3K half-day child development classes will not meet.  

All district athletic events, after-school programs, extracurricular activities and adult education classes will resume Friday.

 

Lexington Four:

Lexington School District Four officials have been monitoring road conditions across the district, and said schools will operate on a 2-hour delay to give buses, parents, staff, and students the opportunity to begin their drives during daylight hours.

The remainder of the day will proceed on a normal school schedule.

Lexington Three:

Lexington County School District Three will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24, due to the continued threat of black ice on the roadways during the early
morning hours, said the district.

A two-hour delay means that school start times, car rider drop-off times are two hours later than normal.

Bus riders should report to their bus stops two hours later than their usual times. Staff should report to their schools/offices two hours later than their regular arrival time.

Schools will dismiss students at their regular times.

Richland One:

Richland County School District One will operate on a two-hour delayed start schedule on Friday, January 24.

Due to the delayed start, breakfast will not be served to students on Friday, but lunch will be served, said the district.

Afterschool programs, activities and events will proceed as normal.

Under the two-hour delayed start, the adjusted school start times are: 9:30 a.m. for elementary schools; 10:45 a.m. for middle schools; and 10 a.m. for high schools.

Richland Two:

Richland School District Two schools will open on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, January 24, based on forecasted icy travel conditions and low temperatures, said officials.

Students who ride the bus should report to their bus stops two hours later than usual, car-riders should report to their schools two hours later than usual, and unless otherwise notified, employees should report to work two hours later than usual

Sumter County Schools:

Sumter School District officials said after assessing the road conditions throughout Sumter County, all schools and offices will remain closed Friday, January 24.

Black ice remains in a few portions of the city and in the rural southern and northeastern sections of the county.

Friday will be a traditional school closure, and the district will announce the make up date for students and staff.

Orangeburg County Schools:

Orangeburg County Schools and district offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 24.

District officials said a delayed start will allow buses, staff, and novice student drivers the opportunity to travel in daylight, reducing the risks posed by icy or unsafe roadways.

All morning bus pick-up times, school start times, and staff reporting times will be adjusted accordingly by two hours, but dismissal times will remain at the regular schedule.
