Man convicted of burning Columbia Walmart sentenced

Judge Milton Kimspon sentenced him to 8 years in prison.

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office say on January 23rd  Laurence Blocker pleaded guilty to setting a fire in Walmart on Garners Ferry Rd.

On May 11, 2023 fire crews responded to Walmart where surveillance video showed Blocker setting fire to a shelf of foam mattress toppers.

Officials say the fire resulted in close to $1 million in damages.

Columbia police released images of Blocker and officials say he was arrested two blocks away from the store.
