Man accused of setting home on fire arrested, says Columbia Police

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police investigators have arrested a man accused of setting a home on fire on Saturday, said CPD.
Malcolm McDowell is being charged with arson 2nd degree after allegedly starting a fire at the back of a house in the 800 block of Calhoun Street on Feb. 1.
Authorities said a male resident was inside at the time of the fire.
The man’s dog smelled smoke and alerted him which led to them both escaping unharmed.
Additionally, law enforcement said video footage helped them identify McDowell as the suspect.
Police arrested him on Monday, Feb. 3, on Elmwood Ave.
