(WCIV) — Raymond Moody, the convicted killer, kidnapper, and rapist of Brittanee Drexel, is scheduled to stand trial on Feb. 24 after a civil lawsuit was filed against him in January of 2023.
Dawn Conley, the mother of Drexel, filed the civil lawsuit against Moody, the Bar Harbor Resort where Drexel was staying at the time of her murder, and Smith Family Partnership.
Conley also filed a lawsuit in Richland County in November of 2023.
The crime was originally committed in April 2009, when 17-year-old Drexel was in Myrtle Beach for spring break when she was kidnapped, raped and killed.
Moody is currently serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to the crime in October 2022.
Additionally, Moody’s long-time girlfriend Angel Vause’s sentencing for her involvement in the crime is scheduled for Feb. 13. Vause pleaded guilty to federal charges for lying to the FBI about details in the case.
