Coroner identifies victim in fatal train vs. truck collision in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the pickup truck driver that died in a collision with a train Tuesday.
Coroner Naida Rutherford says the victim is Otto Asmond Jr., 57, of West Columbia, SC.
According to Columbia Police, before 4:30 a.m., the Amtrak train was traveling north on the CSX railway heading to North Carolina, when Asmond, traveling west, drove around the crossing arms with the signal lights activated & was struck by the train.
This incident remains under investigation.
