Private sector ramps up hiring

(CNN)– U.S. private-sector job growth surged last month, that’s according to the latest data from payroll company ADP.

Private sector employment rose by roughly 183,000 jobs in January, beating expectations.

It marks a slightly faster pace of hiring compared to December.

January’s job gains were attributed to businesses in the service sector, especially those in trade and transportation, as well as leisure and hospitality.

ADP’s tabulations are sometimes seen as a proxy for overall hiring, but they do not always correlate with the government’s monthly jobs report.
