Phone prices may rise from tariffs, but not immediately

(CNN)–  The Trump Administration’s recently imposed a 10% tariff on Chinese imports could make your next smartphone costlier.

But there’s a silver lining, and some important caveats.

It may be a while before smartphone prices start to rise, and those higher costs might not sting as much as expected.

The phone you want may already be in the U.S., and promotional discounts may partially make up for price increases.

And if you pay in installments, the price increase may only amount to a few dollars per month.
