Sumter county traffic stop leads to drug arrest
Sumter Co., SC (WOLO) — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a man accused of taking police on a short police chase. According to authorities, on Monday February 10 around 4:42 pm deputies attempted to pull a car over after deputies say they committed a traffic offense. According to officials, the car was driving along Highway 521 and Highway 441 when they tried to pull the driver of the car over.
Authorities say the driver, now identified as 23 year old D’arian Christian Baltazar ignored blue lights and sirens coming from a marked cruiser. Deputies say Baltazar took them on a brief four mile chase they were able to stop the car and take Baltazar into custody. After further investigation of the National Crime Information Center, (NCIC, and the Department of Motor Vehicles that Baltazar was considered to be a habitual traffic offender and that his license has been suspended multiple times.
Deputies say they search Baltazar’s car and discovered crack cocaine and marijuana. Deputies placed Baltazar under arrest and took him to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Detention Center. he was later released on bond totaling $29,600 dollars.
