RCSD arrests 2 teens accused of bringing guns to school

Richland Co., SC (WOLO) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has announced the arrest of two Dutch Fork High school students accused of bringing guns to the campus. According to authorities, around 9 a.m. School Resource Officers and administrators received tips that two students were armed.

Officials say Dutch Fork SROs immediately located and detained both the 15 and 17 year old students where they underwent searches.  RCSD says during those searches they discovered a knife with a more than 6 inch blade inside of the 15 year old book bag. Deputies say they also located two guns inside of the car the students arrived to the school in.

Investigators confirm that the 15 year old student is also accused of an attempted carjacking that took place around 7 a.m. in the Saddlerock Road and Concord Place community.

Officials say the 15 year old student has been charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm under 18, two counts of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds, Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
While the 17-year-old is charged with Possession of a Firearm under 18 and Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.
Both students were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
