The most recent flu data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows South Carolina flu activity is notably high.

In a map showcasing the flu rates by state, South Carolina is dark purple, the highest level on the colored scale.

According to South Carolina’s Department of Public Health’s (SCDPH) most recent flu watch, recording data from Feb. 2 through 8, there have been 8232 lab-confirmed flu cases, 1230 hospitalizations and 37 influenza-associated deaths. However, 10 of those deaths happened in weeks prior.

This means there have been a total of 104 deaths in this current flu season, including 33 from the Pee Dee region.

It is week six of the SCDPH flu watch and according to the stats, the number of cases has decreased overall in the Palmetto State from the previous week.

According to SCDPH’s regional influenza activity, Horry, Marion, Florence, Dillion, Darlington and Georgetown Counties show no change in flu activity.
