Sen. Graham appears to blame Biden for Russia-Ukraine war, praises Trump’s peace eff
(WCIV) — Sen. Lindsey Graham, on the third anniversary of the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, appeared to blame the Biden administration for the conflict while praising Donald Trump’s Russian-friendly stance in seeking a peace agreement.
In a post on social media, Graham pointedly called for people to reflect on Russia’s “brutal invasion of Ukraine,” while he also applauded Ukrainians continued resolve in the fight “to maintain their freedom.” However, Graham appeared to lay the blame for the conflict on President Joe Biden and his decision to withdraw from Afghanistan chaotically.
The senior senator claims it “set in motion” the aggression now seen by Vladimir Putin.
“It is appropriate on this third anniversary to reflect upon what failed with regards to deterring Russia from invading and the consequences of America being weak on the world stage,” Graham said. “The Biden Administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan set in motion aggression by Putin and others who believed that America was an unreliable ally and weak opponent.”
On the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, I stand in awe of the performance of the Ukrainian military, political leadership and body politic. They have fought like tigers and sacrificed greatly to maintain their freedom.
It is appropriate on this third…

Graham’s comments come after the U.N. General Assembly on Monday refused to approve a U.S.-backed resolution that urged an end to the war without mentioning Moscow’s aggression.
Instead, it approved a European-backed Ukrainian resolution demanding Russia immediately withdraw its forces. The Trump administration opposed the European-backed resolution.
The U.N. vote was a setback for the Trump administration in the 193-member world body. However, the U.N,’s resolutions are not legally binding. They are seen as a measure of the world’s opinion.
The dueling resolutions reflect the tensions that have emerged between the U.S. and Ukraine after Trump suddenly opened negotiations with Russia in a bid to quickly resolve the conflict.
Trump has called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator,” falsely accused Kyiv of starting the war and warned that he “better move fast” to negotiate an end to the conflict or risk not having a nation to lead. Zelenskyy responded by saying Trump was living in a Russian-made “disinformation space.”
Despite the rising tension, Sen. Graham remains adamant that Trump is the right president to end the conflict.
“I hope and pray that the efforts by President Trump and his team to negotiate a ceasefire in order to end this war on just and honorable terms will be successful soon,” Graham said. “A critical minerals agreement between the United States and Ukraine is closer than ever.
“If we are successful in negotiating this agreement, it will be a win-win for both economies and a game changer for the relationship between our nations.”
