COSO: Man dies after checking up on vacant home belonging to family member

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says a man has died after he checked up on a family member’s vacant home.

The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to the report of a shooting at a house on Chickadee Circle in St. Matthews on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

When deputies arrived to the house, 34-year-old Jordan Dove of Lugoff was found to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Dove was taken to a hospital by Calhoun County EMS but died due to his injury.

According to Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers, Dove received a wound while checking on a vacant home that belonged to a family member.

Additionally, the sheriff’s office says it was determined that a firearm discharged inside of the home.

Deputies believe that the home may have been booby trapped.

Law enforcement say a perimeter was set around the home as deputies slowly made their way inside when they encountered a shotgun that was rigged to go off at the back door.

Also, the front door was barricaded shut but no one was found inside.

Investigators were able to dismantle the trap while they processed the scene.

COSO says charges are forthcoming for Alfonzo Brown who is currently incarcerated out of the state.

The investigation is still open and the sheriff’s office asks that anyone with information should contact COSO investigators at 803-874-2741.
