New homes to be built in historic Columbia neighborhood

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A historic Columbia neighborhood is getting a new lease on life.

Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, city officials held a ground-breaking celebration for four new single family homes that will be built in the Lower Waverly, Martin Luther King community.

The Community Development Department is providing $2.2 million in a federal home investment partnership program dollars to finance the project.

City officials say the grant will also go toward five homes that will be built in the Jones McDonald Community Club neighborhood.
