Man gets 25 years in prison for selling drugs out of mobile home pick up window
Bluffton, SC (WOLO)– A jury in Beaufort County General Sessions Court has decided a man prosecutors say was a repeat offender, should go back to a state prison for the next 25 years after prosecutors trying the case say he sold drugs out of a pick up window in the front of his Port Royal mobile home.
Prosecutors say 52 year-old David Field Jr. who already served a previous lengthy stint in federal prison back in 1988, and is now going back and for a significant period of time. The court says this time for dealing what 14th Circuit Deputy Solicitor Mary Jordan Lempesis describes as a “staggering amount of drugs”. Adding, Fields was running a pharmacy for illegal substances out of his home.
According to information released by the 14th Circuit Court, July of 2019 authorities sent a undercover agent to the home to make a controlled buy prior to a search, seizure and surveillance operations carried out on the Wayside Lane home. According to court documents, once they searched the home they discovered an arsenal of handguns, at least two officials say were stolen in addition to massive amounts of drugs. Below is a list of the drugs prosecutors say were confiscated by authorities during that search.
- 31.485 grams of fentanyl;
- 144.81 grams of cocaine;
- 16.49 grams of cocaine crack;
- 37 tablets of oxycodone;
- 948 pills of various types and mixed compounds;
- 1.85 grams of methamphetamine;
- Five pistols, two of which were reported stolen
- $3,381 in cash, including bills a confidential informant used in a controlled purchase.
Prosecutors say Fields represented himself for the case. According to information released by the 14th Circuit solicitor’s office, Circuit Court Judge Robert Bonds handed down the sentence after the jury deliberated just over 75 minutes before reaching a verdict. According to the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s office, Fields was sentenced to 25 years in state prison and fined $75,000 dollars. Prosecutors say he was found guilty of the following offenses.
- Trafficking cocaine;
- Trafficking crack cocaine;
- Distribution of crack cocaine;
- Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl;
- Possession with intent to distribute oxycodone;
- Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine;
- Possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime;
- Possession of handgun with an obliterated serial number.
