Orangeburg County deputies seek suspect in robbery of disabled man at gas station
(WCIV) — Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced Monday investigators are searching for a man accused of robbing a disabled individual at a convenience store on North Road.
“It takes a special kind of low to do something like this,” Sheriff Ravenell said. “If you have any idea who this individual is, please call us. We want to talk to him.”
The incident occurred on Thursday when deputies were called to the scene. The 63-year-old victim, who requires assistance due to medical conditions that limit his mobility, had asked a nearby patron for help fueling his car after a clerk was unable to leave the counter.
The patron assisted in fueling the vehicle but then reached inside the car, stealing a bag containing financial transaction cards, the victim’s driver’s license, and a small amount of cash, Ravenell said. The suspect fled to a silver SUV, which sped away after he entered the passenger side.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect or the driver of the vehicle to contact the Orangeburg County Communications Center at 803-534-3550.
