Senators discuss bill to combat youth vaping in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The Senate Medical Affairs Committee is holding a hearing today at the State House on a bill to combat youth vaping in South Carolina.

Curtis spoke with Dr. Ericka Hursey, former High School Principal & retired educator from Richland 1, about how the proposed bill S.287 will help crackdown on the vaping crisis in our high schools.

According to the latest data from DAODAS, 47% of South Carolina high schoolers admit to using vaping devices.

The proposed bill aims to provide regulations for selling electronic nicotine devices like vapes and to provide penalties for those who violate those regulations.

Dr. Hursey says this legislation will help combat the flood of illegal, disposable, and candy-flavored vape products available to our students.
