City’s Parks and Recreation Department closing portions of Riverfront Park, officials say
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The City of Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Department is closing portions of Riverfront Park for public safety during heavy construction as part of the ongoing canal recovery project, said officials.
The area will be closed starting on Monday, March 10 through Friday, March 14.
The closure will affect Riverfront Park North at 4122 River Drive and Riverfront Park South at 312 Laurel.
Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Department encourages everyone to visit the Saluda Riverwalk at 650 Candi Lane as an alternative.
As part of the pre-construction project, contractors will be removing trees from the canal embankment at the site of the Resilient Water Supply project.
Columbia Water will begin construction of a new intake in the Broad River which will provide up to 80 million gallons per day of supply and pumping capacity in the near future, said city officials.
During the closure guests can still access the restrooms during regular park hours of operation at Riverfront South, 312 Laurel Street.
