TRAFFIC ALERT: I-126 Westbound closed due to traffic accident, Columbia Police say
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– According to Columbia Police, I-126 Westbound (Outbound) is currently closed due to a traffic accident in the area.
CPD says a vehicle drove off the bridge on I-126 Westbound (Outbound) from Elmwood and caught fire just before the river.
Columbia-Richland Fire Department says the car caught fire on impact after landing near the riverbank of Congaree River.
CRFD first shift crews were able to get to the vehicle and extricate the driver.
Richland County EMS took the driver to an area hospital with significant injuries.
Fire officials say no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Officers say to expect delays and seek alternate routes.
