Americans cutting back on snacks

(CNN)– Many Americans are cutting back on snacks, but not for health-related reasons.

According to market research firm NIQ, 42% of U.S. consumers say higher prices are causing them to buy less chips, crackers, and cakes.

The findings from the 1,000 person survey reflect the fall in sales recently reported by the snack brands owned by Pepsi-co, JM Smucker, and Campbell.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports snack prices have risen higher than most other grocery store products.
