Man sentenced in connection with K9 Officer Coba’s death

According to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, investigators obtained burglary warrants for 37-year-old James Robert Peterson in connection with a burglary on Blacks Gate East Road on Friday, May 24.

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands man convicted of shooting and killing a K9 officer will spend more than three decades in prison.
Officials with the Eighth Circuit Solicitor’s Office say James Peterson was sentenced on Monday, March 17, to 33 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges.
Deputies with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to arrest Peterson when he fired the shots that killed K9 Officer Coba.
