Strength of U.S. dollar hits 6 month low

(CNN)– The strength of the U.S. dollar fell to a six month low on Wednesday, April 9, after President Trump’s punishing new tariffs went into effect.

An index measuring the dollar against certain other major currencies was down nearly .9% this morning.

That’s even lower than the level it dropped to last week.

According to one economist, a weaker dollar is not usually how markets respond to U.S. tariffs.

Higher U.S. tariffs would normally boost the dollar by lowering American demand for foreign goods.
