Mikal Mahdi, death row inmate files petition for clemency

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A death row inmate set to die on Friday, April 11, filed a petition for clemency to stop his execution.

Mikal Mahdi is set to be executed by firing squad.

He was convicted of killing a police officer in Calhoun County in 2004.

This comes as the South Carolina Supreme Court rejected his latest appeal.

Mahdi would be the fifth person set to be executed in South Carolina in less than eight months and the second by firing squad.
