SLED charges Kershaw County man with insurance fraud
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a 29-year-old man accused of knowingly misrepresenting his identity to get car insurance, said officials.
Tyreek Louis Napoleon Broughton is accused of knowingly misrepresenting his identity and the insurable interest of his vehicles with the intent to deceive Progressive to gain insurance coverage.
SLED agents said Broughton used someone else’s identity without their knowledge to insure vehicles registered through the DMV to himself.
The misrepresentation was found by Progressive when a victim contacted them to obtain a policy.
Broughton was charged with insurance/false statement, misrepresentation – 1st offense, $50,000 or more on Tuesday, April 8.
He was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center.
The SLED investigation was requested by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.
