SCHP: 1 dead after Lexington Two school bus carrying students overturns on I-77
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– According to Lexington School District Two officials, a school bus carrying students had an incident while traveling on I-77.
District officials say early this afternoon, three buses carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School were traveling south on I-77 after a field trip just outside Charlotte when a tire blew on one of the buses causing an accident.
The bus was carrying 3 adults and around 35 students.
Officials say the two other buses traveling back on I- 77 were not involved in the incident.
EMS is at the scene, along with other emergency responders, law enforcement agencies, and district/school personnel.
Everyone at the scene are being assessed by EMS. Additionally, some students were transported for further evaluation.
SC Highway Patrol has reported that one person is dead after the collision.
