SCDOT holds Work Zone Safety Awareness Week

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– On Monday, April 21, the State Department of Transportation kicked off National Work Zone Awareness Week.

The hope is to call attention to work zones and the men and women who put their lives on the line daily.

Director Justin Powell says it is critical that drivers stay focused behind the wheel.

According to the department, speeding fines are increased in work zones especially if the speeding contributes to an accident in which a worker is hurt or killed reaching up to five thousand dollars.
