SCDOT holds annual Workers Memorial Ceremony

 

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– On Tuesday, April 29, the South Carolina Department of Transportation held its annual “Workers Memorial Ceremony” outside of their headquarters on Park Street in downtown Columbia.

The event honors employees killed while working on the highways as well as those who died on the job from natural causes.

Speakers addressed the crowd in front of the SCDOT’s memorial wall, now holding the names of 93 employees.

The latest to be added to the memorial is Jared Rose who died while working in Dorchester County in February.

The SCDOT employs over 4,000 people maintaining over 41,000 miles of road across South Carolina.
