24 states sue Americorps over job cuts

(CNN)– Twenty-four states along with Washington D.C. have filed a lawsuit against Americorps.

It’s over cuts the agency made to its workforce and programs as part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to shrink the federal government.

The multi-state coalition includes 23 Democratic attorneys general and two governors who say the cuts are illegal and violate Congress’ authority.

They argue that the administration is gutting the agency to the point that it cannot function.

The lawsuit alleges that 85% of Americorps staff were placed on administrative leave earlier this month.
