“I thought it was a joke,” says Midlands Million Dollar Winner
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Lottery officials said when a Columbia man was notified that he’d won $1 million in a drawing, he didn’t believe it.
“I thought it was a joke,” the lottery winner said.
The winner hung up the phone with the SC Education Lottery and called his wife to tell her he might be a millionaire.
Officials said once she got home, he told her the news.
“What?, oh, come on,” she said.
It wasn’t until the couple took a visit to the Lottery’s Claims Center and were given a check for their $1 million prize that they celebrated, said lottery officials.
“It’s unbelievable. It’s more money than I have ever seen in my life,” the winner told lottery officials.
The Columbia man became a millionaire in April when his lottery ticket was selected from the more than 1.3 million entries received in the Royal Millions Second-Chance Promotion.
