Small Business Week begins in the Midlands

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Monday, May 5, marks the beginning of “Small Business Week” across the U.S. highlighting local trades and encouraging their growth and success.

In the Midlands leaders with the City of Columbia and the Chamber of Commerce helped kick off the week at Bierkeller Brewing Company.

Officials say small businesses help drive innovation, create jobs, and raise competitiveness throughout our communities.

The city reports that 44% of all new businesses started in the past year are owned by women, and 50% are owned by minorities.
