CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit investigating after collision involving bicyclist

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating after a collision involving a bicyclist and a cement truck, said officers.
According to the police department, the collision happened at the intersection of Main, and Calhoun Streets.
After reviewing surveillance video, and speaking to witnesses, officer said it appears the bicyclist was initially traveling on the sidewalk, and turned in front of the cement/concrete truck.
The bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased due to his injuries.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting Columbia PD’s Traffic Safety Unit with the case.
