Teacher accused of making inappropriate comments to student

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A teacher is being charged after Sumter Police say he sent inappropriate text messages to a student.

Torey A. Shannon, 42, of Sumter, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Sumter PD says officers began investigating on April 29 after school officials learned of allegations of inappropriate comments made by a teacher toward a student.

Officers say it is also alleged that the teacher was being blackmailed by a friend of the victim to keep their silence.

Shannon turned himself in on Wednesday morning, May 7, and was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
