SC Health Dept. urges moms to make health a Mother’s Day priority
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Mother’s Day is this weekend and the state Department of Public Health is encouraging all moms to make their physical and mental health a priority.
Officials with the department say they have a wide array of services available for women at every stage of motherhood ranging from maternity care to screenings for cancer and heart disease.
“It’s easy for moms to put the health and safety of our children ahead of our own, but it’s just as critical for us to monitor our own health,” said Dr. Brannon Traxler Director of Health Promotion and Services and Chief Medical Officer. “This is especially true for new moms, who are particularly at risk for certain health problems in the year following childbirth. But long-term health doesn’t stop at one year. It’s important for all moms to care for themselves through every stage of motherhood.”
