40 states see gas price decline; South Carolina among those benefiting from the trend
(WCIV) — The average price of gas in South Carolina has fallen in the past week despite oil prices jumping more than $4 per barrel, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 gas stations in South Carolina.
Monday’s report states that prices in the state have fallen 7.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging at about $2.66 per gallon Monday morning.
With this drop in prices, gas is reportedly 6.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stands 50.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $2.29 per gallon yesterday while the most expensive was $3.09 per gallon, a near full dollar difference of 80.0 cents per gallon.
Meanwhile this drop in prices has also affected 40 of the 50 states nationally, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“Forty states have seen average gasoline prices fall over the last week, while just ten have seen increases—most notably on the West Coast, where another refinery fire in Northern California once again disrupted gasoline production,” said De Haan.
The recorded national average price of gas has fallen 4.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.08 per gallon today.
This is down 8.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and 50.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“As we approach Memorial Day, gas prices may see some minor fluctuations, but for now, I don’t expect any significant changes to the national average, with prices staying near their lowest seasonal level since 2021,” said De Haan.
