On Monday, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced the return of the PalmettoBaby Grant Program in celebration of National 529 Day.

The day is observed every year on May 29 as a reminder to families and friends on how easy it is to save for a child’s future education.

It’s PalmettoBaby time – a time to remind South Carolina families about the importance of saving for their loved ones’ future education with the Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan,” said Treasurer Loftis. “And once again, we are delighted to offer privately funded $529 grants to the parents of every South Carolina baby born on May 29 in hopes that they will begin their education savings journey.

Along with the opportunity to secure a $529 college savings grant, South Carolina parents who give birth on May 29 will get a Future Scholar goody bag, which includes information about the state’s nationally recognized 529 college savings plan.

To receive the grant, parents of babies born on May 29, must fill out this grant application and open a Future Scholar account by Sept. 2, 2025.

These funds can be used for K-12 tuition, trade schools, registered apprenticeship programs and student loan repayment.

The State Treasurer’s Office has teamed up with hospitals across the state to promote the importance of saving through the PalmettoBaby Grant Program since 2012.
