Man arrested in connection with home invasions, deputies say
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD says a man has been arrested in relation to reports of two separate home invasions.
On May 12, just after 3 a.m. deputies responded in the 700-800 blocks of Sky Lane Drive in reference to reports of two separate home invasions.
When deputies arrived at the home in the 700 block of Sky Lane Drive they began to clear the home after finding an open door.
While clearing the home deputies located the suspect, Jerome Reed with items from the home in his hands, according to RCSD.
Reed was taken into custody and while being escorted from the home, he attempted to grab a deputy’s gun.
Richland County Sheriff’s Department says Reed was unsuccessful and deputies were able to restrain him.
Further investigation revealed that Reed had first attempted to break into a home in the 800 block of Sky Lane Drive by kicking in the front door.
Investigators say when he was unsuccessful, he moved on to a home in the 700 block.
He is accused of ripping off the doorbell camera and began kicking the front door.
Additionally, investigators say the noise he created woke up the homeowner and her small child who were able to flee the home and hide before Reed entered the home.
Reed was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and charged with attempted burglary 1st degree, burglary 1st degree, attempted taking firearm or other weapon from law enforcement officer, and malicious injury to real property.
He was granted a cash bond however, he has not posted bond and is still detained.
