Columbia mother sentenced to 45 years for triplets’ death, child neglect

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–  A Columbia mother has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after a jury convicted her for the death of one of her infant triplets and the neglect of her two other children, said the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

On Thursday, May 15, a Richland County jury found Breonte Glasgow guilty of homicide by child abuse in the 2023 death of her eight-month-old son, Johan Gantt.

Also, Glasgow was convicted on two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

Glasgow was sentenced to serve 45 years in the SC Department of Corrections by a Circuit Court judge.

Emergency crews responded to Glasgow’s home in March 2023, and found infant Johan Gantt unresponsive.

Officials said the child was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

Investigators said an autopsy showed serious injuries, including broken bones, a brain injury, extreme malnourishment, and visible signs of trauma.

During the investigation, authorities said that she was the only caregiver for the children.

Additionally, investigators found a deleted 18-minute video from her phone showing her taunting the child in a bathtub two months before his death.

In court, Glasgow said she found the child dead two hours before calling 911 and denied seeing any injuries.

Glasgow’s other two children were also found to be severely malnourished and are in a new home, where officials say they are now healthy and thriving.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
