Man arrested for DUI after wreck kills two on Neely Wingard Road

LEXINGTON CO., S.C. (WOLO) – Highway Patrol says a man has been arrested for a fatal wreck that killed two people Sunday night.

Abel Ortega Ramirez, 37, is charged with two counts of felony DUI resulting in death, driving without a license and driving under suspension.

According to investigators, before 9 p.m., Ramirez was driving east on Ben Franklin Road when he struck a vehicle travelling south on Neely Wingard Road.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher says one of the passengers in the other vehicle, Claire Ann Pierce, 22, of Lexington, died on scene.

She also said another passenger, Eliza Jane Udy, 21, of Leesville, died at the hospital from her injuries.

Ramirez and the other driver both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Ramirez is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center where bond has been denied on all charges.
