Newberry Pd: 3 Arrested In Connection With Monday Homicide

NEWBERRY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry Police Department has announced the arrest of three people in connection with a Monday homicide, said police.

On Monday, May 19, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting call in the 1800 block of Charles Street in the City of Newberry around 3:15 p.m.

Officers said once at the scene a victim was found with an apparent gunshot wound(s).

It was determined that she had died from her injuries.

The victim was identified by Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece as 25-year-old Breanna Bates, of Newberry.

An autopsy confirmed Bates died as result of a gunshot wound(s), according to Newberry PD.

Keonte Montrez Caughman, 20, of Newberry; IJavion Cheek, 17, of Newberry; and IMaurion Lil’Travis Cheek, 19, of Newberry have been arrested in connection with the homicide.

Police Chief Kevin Goodman said more arrests may be coming as this is an ongoing investigation.

The Newberry City Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the homicide.
