Power plant in the Midlands could soon see new life

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A power plant in the Midlands could soon see new life.

According to Santee Cooper, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is considering completing construction at the defunct VC Summer Nuclear Facility in Fairfield County.

The project was halted in 2017 due to delays, cost overruns, and impropriety which ultimately cost $9 billion and thousands of jobs.

Governor Henry Mcmaster says he is hopeful the project will be revived.

The collapse of VC Summer also caused SCE&G to go bankrupt and be taken over by Dominion Energy.
